It is not a "SCRATCH OFF" coloring book as the title suggests.I hate writing negative reviews, but the title of this book is very misleading. What I thought I was ordering, based on the title was a book of mandala prints that you scratch off with a stylus, usually wooden, that reveals the colors underneath the print. Hence the title "Mandala Scratch Off Coloring Book." There is no scratch off anywhere in this book so I am very confused as to why the author or publisher indicates it in its title.What this book actually is, is just your average, garden variety coloring book, so I'll give my opinion as such...Most of the prints are fairly simple designs. There are a few more intricate designs throughout the book, however each design is only approximately 6.25" which leaves a lot of wasted space on the page in my opinion. Which I guess could give a talented colorist room to add their own personal flair. The print quality is poor. Some prints suffer inconsistencies with the ink within individual designs that I don't believe to have been intended by the artist, and some designs may be difficult to see if the colorist has eye problems or who lack direct lighting.In looking at the designs displayed on the back cover, one would expect at least some of the designs inside the book to be a bit more intricate than what they are. In fact, none of the designs displayed on the back cover, nor the beautiful design shown on the front cover are anywhere inside the coloring book at all. Which is a shame in all honesty.All in all it's a fine 2-3 star coloring book of fairly simple mandala designs that I will probably put color to on some. However, a "Mandala SCRATCH OFF Coloring Book" it is not.

This is a total let down. The title says Scratch off. It would lead you to believe you scratch off the designs to reveal color under the coating. That is not what this is. The designs are nice I suppose but this is not what I was expecting. Very disappointed. There are 50 images printed on thin paper. There is nothing really special about it. I suppose if you enjoy coloring mandalas then you might like it but the name needs to be changed. This is so misleading.

I have previously read other books on what has become known as Red Cloud's War but this effort by Bob Drury and Tom Clavin is a masterpiece in old west history. I was puzzled by the title "The Heart of Everything That Is" but I learned that it refers to the Paha Sapa or Black Hills in western South Dakota.There were several variations of the Sioux tribes and the authors go into detail regarding the time preceding Red Cloud with Old Man Afraid of His Horses as the leader of the Oglala Sioux tribe. We also get a portrait of Jim Bridger, known as Old Gabe, and the authors wonder why more hasn't been written about this influential man in western history. Pretty Owl and Pine Leaf were loves of Red Cloud and the tragic death of Pine Leaf by her own hand is dealt with.The controversial building of forts along the hated Bozeman Trail through Wyoming and into Montana provides the reader with additional information regarding the building of Fort Phil Kearny which led to the infamous Fetterman Fight on December 21, 1866, in which William Judd Fetterman lost his life along with eighty others. Who was to blame for this fiasco? Was it Fetterman himself or the ill-suited commander of the fort Henry Carrington? Of what role in the defeat, if any, did Tenedore Ten Eyck play? Did his delay in going to Fetterman's defense doom Fetterman and his men or would his support have just added to the victims?I learned that it was American Horse who killed Fetterman and John "Portugee" Phillips had two others who sent out word of the disaster at Fort Phil Kearny with Phillips being the only one who traveled all the way to Fort Laramie to bring word on the day after Christmas. Also, Jim Bridger thought the location that Henry Carrington chose to build Fort Phil Kearny was a poor choice but Carrington's opinion prevailed. In addition to those already mentioned this book contains several other interesting characters such as Nelson Story who became the inspiration for the novel Lonesome Dove, George and Francis Grummond and Margaret Carrington, Crazy Horse, Spotted Tail, John Bozeman and John Jacobs both of whom started the Bozeman Trail, and many others.Chief Red Cloud was able to bring victory over the United States army with The Treaty of 1868 which brought about the closing of the Bozeman Trail and the forts (Reno, Phil Kearny, and C. F. Smith) that were located on it. The forts were destroyed and the United States had other more pressing matters on its hands such as the rebuilding of the South following the Civil War and the completion of the Union Pacific railroad.Chief Red Cloud died at the age of eighty-eight in 1909 and is buried on the grounds of the Red Cloud school that presently educates children on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Even if you have read the other books on this aspect of Sioux Indian history this biography on Chief Red Cloud is a masterpiece to add to your library.

I became interested in this book after reading "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" and I'm glad I read this one to further expand my perspective. First, the narrative of this book is nice to follow, gently laying out more and more of the story of Red Cloud as it unfolds, only deviating momentarily to introduce new characters, or give deeper context to something that is about to unfold.Also, the level of detail given about every character and event is definitely satisfying. It doesn't reach the same depth as DW Donald's "Lincoln", but it is more akin to Hillebrand's "Unbroken". At least for me, the are no big questions that are left unanswered with a decent amount of evidence. For further info on this, the reader can skip to the end and read "Notes and Bibliography" which discusses some of the imperfect sources, such as the Red Cloud autobiography, and how they came to light.Lastly, and probably most important, I found this book to be a very balanced take. It doesn't gloss over details on either side, but doesn't put conclusions in your face about how bad or good or heroic some person or thing was. The book leaves to you to decide those things, which I greatly appreciate. For example, none of the details of what the Sioux did to their prisoners or even their own women are left out, but they are presented in a fair light; and at the same time the book gives very clear picture of how idiotic and brutal the US Military was without simply saying "Sand Creek was an example of how depraved the US Military had become". Speaking of Sand Creek, I learned more essential information about that massacre in this book than I did from "Bury My Heart", although the latter provides more of the heart wrenching details. It was interesting to see how Sand Creek fit in with the bigger picture of Red Cloud's War.Overall I came away from this book realizing that neither side of the conflict was free from the stains of innocent blood, as contrasted to "Bury My Heart" which really focuses largely on the atrocities of the US Military and doesn't leave you feeling anything besides anger towards that party (obviously different book, not saying it takes the wrong stance, I highly recommend that one as well). But fair warning, this is not a G-rated book, there are very gruesome descriptions (such as what happened on Lodge Trail Ridge, or what certain US soldiers did to women's corpses, and so on). I wouldn't want my 11 year old son reading some of this stuff.

Since it was put out by Lonely Planet, I really wanted to see this one, but am not all that thrilled. Many pictures are very busy, hard to figure out, and intense to color, while others are just not all that pretty. Instead of a drawing of the Mona Lisa to represent France, a sketch of the Louvre itself to color would have appealed to me more. But, it is still nice to take a coloring book tour through some of the most remarkable places on earth.

This is a very cool adult coloring book. Excellent scenes/historical places. Can't wait to begin coloring. The scenes aren't too simple or complex for coloring. Some get so detailed they make my eyes hurt, but not this one. I like how unique this coloring book is. This isn't the usual topic for a coloring book.

Bought this for my dad for his birthday. He loves it! He and my mom are world travelers and they love looking at the pictures from all over the world and talking about where they've been and where they'll go next. It was the perfect gift for him!

I was really excited to get this, but so disappointed when it arrived. The pictures are terrible, it’s hard to actually tell what somethings are, nevermind being able to color them. It is just so poorly done. I never use it because the pictures are so confusing, you can’t tell what to color, when lines end, what is what. I hate it. I wouldn’t suggest this to anyone.

Absolutely love his art, by far my favorite, but for this one I prefer watching the show and didn't wanna dump a bunch of money on getting both anime and manga so I picked up the art books and it pretty much comes with all my favorite pieces by him. Plus this one had about a paragraph in detail about each photo at the end and an encouraging interview for any artist out there. Great stuff highly recommend all 3 art book.

Kishimoto Masashi's /Naruto/ art book is just as it sounds: Another manga \ pictures from the creator art book. It's been done before. The only people who would probably appreciate it are art students interested in comics, or fans of the popular Naruto series. However, for those who do buy this book, well, it's beautiful, to say the very least.The book separated into sections, each containing a poem or snippet I assume was written by Kishimoto-san. For the publishers, VIZ Media, what I praise most about this book is the fact that they left the original Japanese print that went along with some of the pictures and translated off to the side. For some, this might be a nuisance, but for a student of the language, it's a good way to test themselves.Now, onto the book itself. Most of the pictures are cover spreads or pictures that have appeared on the cover of /Shonen Jump/ magazine. Thus, they have more than likely been seen by fans before. However, these pictures are uninterrupted by the text that goes on the covers of that magazine, and have - in the back of the book, sort of like the index - an explanation from Kishimoto-san himself explaining the thought processes and work that went into every picture. The art showcases pictures drawn up to volume twenty-four of the manga.The extras include an interview with Kishimoto-san basically speaking more of the creation of Naruto and ideas he puts into motion. Also, there is a step-by-step feature of how to draw the front cover using the same tools as Kishimoto-san himself.In the end, this book is a great buy for Naruto fans and those who want to learn from Kishimoto-san's style. Or for those who just respect the art. However, in the end, it was made for fans of the series, just as all manga art books are.

I actually used this to cut out pictures for some decorative artwork, and it is great! Also has a little stories about each picture and when/why it was created. The artwork is bright and vibrant and I recomend it for any Naruto fan!!

this is a collection of his first ever illustrations through-out the first NARUTO series (NARUTO: shippuuden is the sequel)!i enjoy looking at his old work. i love how he portrays each character. i'm especially drawn to Naruto's rebellious attitude in each picture.as a bonus, masashi kishimoto reveals a walk-through process of his drawings. he puts a lot of work into his art and it definitely shows! this is a must-have for any NARUTO fan! i'll cherish this and NARUTO ILLUSTRATION BOOK(Shippuuden) forever. i'd like to draw some fan art in this style. this book is perfect for character reference!

I purchased this book for my boyfriend who loves watching the anime. I wanted him to also appreciate all the hard work put into the artwork too and he loves this book! It's even made him re-read the anime all over again from the beginning.Even though I'm not a Naruto fan, I really enjoyed going through this whole art book. It's amazing how there are so many intricate details that are carefully constructed to make sure a wonderful artwork. This book even inspired me to draw some anime ^_^

This book is the perfect introduction to essential oils for someone who is serious about using essential oils for medicinal purposes, and especially for those with a basic background in chemistry and biology. Dr. Schnaubelt does a wonderful job of explaining the nuances of using essential oils vs. prescribed phamaceutical preparaptions to treat a variety of conditions. He makes it very clear that essential oil is not a cure-all for all ailments, and presents a very realistic view of what the benefits can be to using various oils.I am a Registered Nurse, and am most interested in the whys of how different treatment modalities work, just as much as I am with the results (provides a solid basis for deciding to initiate, continue, or terminate any given treatment modality, be it aspirin or an essential oil). This book does a very good job of giving me a starting point of where I can start really learning about the phisiological interactions our bodies, down to the cellular level, have with the different compounds found within essential oils. For those who aren't familiar (or just need a refresher from your A&P or BioChem classes), Dr. Schnaubelt provides a brief overview of cellular structure, chemical bonds, molecular polarity, etc. in his writing and diagrams, and explains why these structures and their properties are important in the application of essential oils as a therapeutic modality.If you feel a bit rusty in your biology and chemistry studies, a quick review of basic human biology (cellular structure, protein structure & synthesis, enzyme structure, synthesis, and actions, DNA & RNA synthesis & replication, etc.) and chemistry (remember all of those fun diagrams we had to draw to visualize the component molecules & the associated bonds that make up various compounds? Theeeeyyyyyrrrreeee baaaaaaaack! At least Dr. Schnaubelt makes it more interesting, and there won't be a pop-quiz tomorrow... but don't forget to also read up some of the common molecules and groups found in biological organisms) will greatly enhance your experience with this book. If you don't want to go that route, then simply just look up unfamiliar things when you come across them. Understanding these basics of biology and chemistry will prove to be the foundation from which your knowledge and applied aromatherapy practice will be based on. Think of it as something like knowing the roles for individual positions on a football team before you can become a coach, and start making up play-books of your own.I also find it very refreshing that Dr. Schnaubelt does not completely dismiss Western medicine, as many other "alternative" or "holistic" practitioners seem to do. While he does have an obvious, and understandable, issue with the phamaceutical industry and its' implications for actual human health, he without a doubt recognizes and encourages people to consult with and seek treatment from a professional doctor/NP/PA when it is prudent.Even as my knowledge of this field is expanding, I still find myself referring to this book in my studies. For people that are interested in, or have already made essential oil treatment part of their lives, this book will not likely collect dust on the bookshelf after reading it. Just understand that there IS a strong scientific/technical element to the book, so you may need to reference other sources (like old college science textbooks) to extract the maximum amount of knowledge that Dr. Schnaubelt is sharing in his writings. The extra effort is well worth the payoff: an ability to truly understand the connections and interactions between our bodies and essential oils, which leads to greater competence and confidence in the field of applied aromatherapy.For those that enjoy this book, I highly recommend his other books on essential oils for continuing education on the subject. If I were to classify each book as in an academic progression, I would say that his book "Advanced Aromatherapy" is the intro level book, this book is the intermediate book, and "Medical Aromatherapy" is the intermediate-advanced level book.Special note: While the author has business connections with the Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy, as well as the associated product line of Original Swiss Aromatics, he does NOT make either the focus of any of his books. They may be mentioned in passing a few times in the text of each book, but these books are definitely NOT large advertisements for a particular brand of oil or a paticular school. I encountered this in a few other aromatherapy books, which was a HUGE turn-off for me; I'm not one to pay my own money for advertisements disguised as instructional texts. Dr. Schnaubelt simply stresses the quality and sourcing of oils in the writing, and only mentions specific products sporadically. :)

Reading this book is like going to class with a really cool teacher , one that knows their subject very well and can impart that complex knowledge to you in a way you can understand and makes it interesting for you to learn about. The Science behind aromatherapy is really interesting and this book is not a boring read . Not only do you learn the science behind why and how the essential oils work to heal , you learn about the differences in the quality of essential oils and are even given an exercise to learn how to be able to tell if an essential oil is a clonal version or a hybrid version. There are guidelines and precautions included and a lot of different recipe's for specific ailments . The footnotes are wonderful and have many leads and references to other authors and specialist on the subject matter for those who want to go further into their research on this subject . The photos throughout are also a colorful and lovely addition, from vast fields of Lavender to the great Shwedogon Paya , a Sunset in Sabah and so many more beautiful photos that grace throughout the pages of this wonderful and informative book. For anyone who is serious and or just curious about Aromatherapy and the use of essential oils for healing and want to know the science behind how they work or learn recipe's for specific ailments buy this book . It is a great investment well worth the time and money.

Very in-depth, maybe too much so for some. Nice photos. Not for someone looking for simplicity and easy to find info. That would be why it says "The Science of Advanced Aromatherapy." If advanced means the use of some obscure oils then this is for you. For example the two oils mentioned for shingles--I ould use any oif the more common antiviral oils andnotas as stand-alone protocol.Nevertheless, there is loads of useful information , if you don't get bogged down.If you are looking for a pharmacopeia and uses of common but effective oils, this us not for you.

I am a medical reference librarian, and I have searched and searched for reliable information about essential oils.Part of the problem is there's no funding for study of essential oils, or the studies being done are in vitro, not in vivo, (although every other part of the world is doing research except the US).Part of the problem is that there's a lot of folk lore around essential oils since they have been used for the last 500 years or so. And then the waters are REALLY muddied by various well meaning folks who are part of reputable direct sales marketing companies. These people think they know what they are talking about as they disseminate misinformation ad nauseum.Dr. Schnaubelt is recognized as the most reliable provider of information about the use and effects of EOs. Although the research just isn't available some times, there's enough anecdotal or personal experience with the oils through Dr. Schnaubelt's work to support his recommendations.

This book is a trailblazing examination of essential oil blends for acute medical conditions, used both topically and internally. There are many remedies listed for insomnia, prevention of viral and bacterial infections (including MRSA and hepatitis B & C), cancer treatment, and yeast. There is also substantial evidence and scientific research on how essential oils work medicinally in the body. I have tried the prescribed recipes for pain relieving rub, virus prevention and bedtime soporifics, and found them all to be effective and surprisingly sweet-smelling. I've been able to come off some of my prescription meds because of this book! It is an excellent resource that I will refer to again and again.

This book was recommended to me simultaneous to me hearing Rankin speak at a conference this year. The experience of hearing him speak increased my desire to want to read the book. It is easily the best which-book-do-I-read-now decision I've made in years. I was utterly captivated by the book from its opening pages.Union with Christ is something which I would claim to have known in bits and pieces, and therefore have knowingly experienced its benefits in only bits and pieces. This book brought those scattered bits and pieces into a coherent, well-articulated and illustrated whole. Rankin's flow in defining Union with Christ, then tracing it Biblically, historically and finally experientially brings a compelling case for presenting the importance, or I might even say, centrality of Union with Christ to the Christian life.As someone who works closely with college-aged students in ministry, I have already been recommending this book heartily and even purchasing additional copies of it to hand to students - it is THAT good. It is readable and accessible across a wide range of people and audiences. I cannot recommend it more highly.

This book is a fantastic read. Rankin has blended substantial scholarship and everyday-spiritual-direction in a way that few books in recent years have. I believe he accomplished his desire stated early on to recover the hugely overlooked doctrine of union with Christ while at the same time engaging timely cultural issues facing everyone in the west along with giving solid and simple ways to apply this doctrine to our hearts, lives, and mindsets.While I could recommend it for numerous reasons, I particularly think his treatment of grace and holiness was the best, clearest, and most succinct I've read to date (and as a pastor, I've read a lot on that topic!), which will greatly impact how I communicate and minister the gospel to others and even my own heart. Rankin deals throughout with a great number of false choices we often face showing that union helps us see how seeming opposite things are actually brought together in union with Christ.The book was challenging, comforting, and simply a delight to read. This book will be a gift to whoever will take up and read it.

I enjoyed savoring this wonderful book over time. Even though the subject matter may seem daunting to some, this book is highly accessible. The author deftly reins in his considerable intellect and aptitude as a theologian to relate to everyday believers in a very winsome way. Reading this book is like sitting with a close friend over tea, comparing notes on the incredible divine relationship anyone can enjoy. This book describes what this mystical union is and encourages us to enter into it, but if I could ask one more thing (perhaps from a sequel), it would be to get a stronger practical sense of what this supernatural interchange looks like on a day-to-day level. Clearly, this author has ventured into these spiritual waters and I'd love to hear more personal stories of what that's been like for him. Recommended reading.

Author Rankin Wilbourne adds his voice to the growing chorus of neo-Romantics proclaiming that imagination is the key to living an enchanted Christian life. "Imagination is necessary to know and enjoy God," he says, and is required for union with Christ, which is described as "an enchanted reality." (Locations 118, 131, 172.) Imagination is a must because God and Christ and the Holy Spirit are all invisible and, according to the author, the only way a person can experience invisible things is to imagine them. The imagination empowers one to "image something not present to the eyes." (124)But if we can only experience God by imagining Him, we are imminently likely to end up worshiping an imaginary god. That is why Romanticism failed two centuries ago. After the Enlightenment reduced the universe to meaningless matter in motion, Romanticism endeavored to re-enchant the world. While its poets promised a spiritual reality beyond what the eyes can see, all they delivered were metaphors about spiritual things derived from their perceptions of the natural world. (185, 1394)The really sad thing is that the author heavily relies on the writings of those who actually experienced real union with Jesus Christ, including John Owen and Jonathan Edwards, but he then reduces these real experiences to imaginary ones because that is all he knows himself and all he thinks a person is capable of knowing.Jonathan Edwards, in describing the "divine and supernatural light" by which the Holy Spirit directly reveals to a believer the wondrous spiritual realities described in Scripture, expressly denied this was a work of the imagination: "[One] may be affected with a lively and eloquent description of many pleasant things that attend the state of the blessed in heaven, as well as his imagination be entertained by a romantic description of the pleasantness of fairy land, or the like. … We read in Scripture of many that were greatly affected with things of a religious nature, who yet are there represented as wholly graceless, and many of them very ill men. A person therefore may have affecting views of the things of religion, and yet be very destitute of spiritual light. Flesh and blood may be the author of this: one man may give another an affecting view of divine things with but common assistance: but God alone can give a spiritual discovery of them."John Owen noted that only those who have had this real encounter with the Holy Spirit are able to understand it: "And whereas this spiritual experience, which believers obtain through the Holy Ghost, is such as cannot rationally be contended about, seeing those who have received it cannot fully express it, and those who have not cannot understand it, nor the efficacy which it hath to secure and establish the mind, it is left to be determined on by them alone who have their 'senses exercised to discern good and evil.' And this belongs unto the internal subjective testimony of the Holy Ghost." Pneumatologia at 510.Edwards and Owen were in accord that this illuminating work of the Holy Spirit is the only means by which a Christian can secure the benefits of union with Christ and its attendant spiritual fruit. Said Edwards: "This light, and this only, has its fruit in universal holiness of life. No merely notional or speculative understanding of the doctrines of religion will ever bring to this. But this light, as it reaches the bottom of the heart and changes the nature, so it will effectually dispose to a universal obedience." Owen likewise wrote that this direct illumination by the Holy Spirit has in it "a transforming power to change the whole soul into an obedient frame towards God" and "is the only means whereby we actually derive from Christ the benefits of our union with him." Pneumatologia at 242, 403.No amount of imagining will ever produce the light and life and fruit that Edwards and Owen described. I had been looking at this book for awhile, and the price was lowered so I ordered it. I was a bit disappointed because only 4 of our extensive Lladro collection were listed, but still it was interesting to see all the different figurines and to get an idea of what they might be worth. I will probably look for another that might list the others that we have in our collection.

Have been interested in Lladros since I was stationed in Rota Spain, would buy them at the Navy Exchange for a great price, since 1984 to 88 the price from Spain to the USA is significant, this book helps me to find and price them.

The " I Survived" books are a huge hit in my son's second grade class. At first, I thought that he was wanting the books just to "collect" them because that seems to be the "thing" this year, but it turns out that these books have helped foster a love of history and has made required reading times much more enjoyable. I was skeptical at some of the topics being too scary for my second grader, but they are written in a way that is informative and appropriate for the age level. We especially enjoyed this one, set in the Dakota's because that is where we live and the blizzard is something we "survive" regularly during winters here.

Absolutely loved it! The characters were detailed, the setting was accurate and the story was based on actual events. This series is a great way to increase kids’ reading comprehension and builds up their knowledge of history. It helps them to appreciate the times we live in also. Highly recommend. Good for intermediate readers: grades 3-5.

It was probably my favorite I survived book I’ve ever read and that’s pretty big coming for me because I read every single one and she is probably one of my favorite authors ever if I had to read this book between one and 10 I’ll probably read about 50 definitely an amazing book if you like suspense this is definitely book for you

I enjoyed it with my 2nd grade son, we switch off reading chapters. I was intrigued enough to lookup more about the Children's Blizzard on my own. Author has figured out a formula that works, she tweaks it a bit for each book in series - but so much more interesting to read than a lot of early chapter books. Really engages my son to read and enjoy it, which is my main goal at this stage, it's a bonus that I too enjoy reading this series.

I’m in the fourth grade and I chose to read this book for this weeks literature assignment. I thought it was really good because it was interesting.Also, I felt adrenaline while reading both of the blizzard parts in the book. Overall, this was a great book to read and I highly recommend it.

Very interesting; in fact, I have bought all the ones available because they were so very good Each of these books in the series is well written and well researched and shows kids as heroes. Young boys need these books, and girls will enjoy them too. I bought two sets to give to two grandsons.

My 9 year old grandson loved the entire series. I loved it because it gave him some sense of history. He is a very good reader. I don't know the reading level, but he had no trouble.

I absolutely love this book! It has to be my favorite book of all the I Survived series! One thing, why don’t they have more books about girls? They have one!!! I just don’t get it!

If I was giving out awards for beautiful book covers, you can bet that Never-Contented Things would be getting one. The cover is absolutely striking, and immediately gave me an impression of the sort of story that it would have. Never-Contented Things was written by Sarah Porter, and it’s an interesting shift on the whole fae/changeling/human dynamic. That’s not to say that the typical hierarchy isn’t there, because it absolutely is. More that the perspective is different. Everything is from the human side, and it really makes you realize just how hard it could be to identify fae actions. Warnings: Two of the main characters in this novel are foster children. One of them had a pretty horrible life before she ended up where she did. Her backstory starts out as hinting, but will eventually outright state the fact that she was raped. There are no details, but it does come up from time to time. And it results in a few uncomfortable scenes. Also, like any true fae story, there are some kidnappings that occur throughout. That’s probably more expected though. Never-Contented Things was such a different experience to read. It had fae, and I believe changelings as well, and of course there were plenty of humans. Together it was and always is a recipe for disaster. Yet Sarah Porter managed to make her telling unique, despite the rules she based it on.The whole story is set in this perspective you don’t really get when it comes to fae stories, and I love that. I spent half the novel trying to convince myself that I wasn’t imagining things, and the other half worrying about how they would get out of their situation. I loved the different perspective on this tale. If I could get more stories like this, I would be thrilled. There are big bad fae as well, and not the type that appears to be bad, but are truly nice on the inside. I mean they are truly horrible creatures, through and through. It’s refreshing that Porter stuck to her guns there. I’ll admit that at times the novel did drag on more than was needed. The subtlety was appreciated at first – it was refreshing not just seeing the fae jump out and go ‘boo!’ to the main characters. But after a while I found myself wondering if they would ever actually see them - which might make for an interesting book, but it’d have to be done carefully. There was a lot of raw human nature in this book, both the good and the bad. I actually loved the juxtaposition between all the human emotions and reactions and the fae just doing their thing. It added a complexity to the world that I hadn’t expected. It took me a while to become attached to the main perspectives in this novel, but it did happen. Once I was invested in what was happening to them, I couldn’t stop myself from worrying and theorizing about what was going to happen next. The ending came as a bit of a relief to me. I was happy to see how everything played out – especially since not everyone got what they wanted. Likewise, not everyone got what they deserved…but that’s to be expected. Life is hardly ever that clean, especially when the fae have become involved.

This book is about extremely flawed people who make bad choices for good reasons, and covers some pretty dark topics. It's desperate and poetic and sad and hopeful. There are horrible cruel fairies and truly high stakes. There are teens who just love each other so much and don’t know how to show it right. There's the terror of being being known and understood by another person, and worse, being known and understood by yourself. And there's something so nice about reading a book in which the main characters care so hard. Everything in it, from the emotional arcs to the plot, are driven by how much they love and want to protect each other.Of these three main characters, none of them are straight, which I love. You have people who already know and are comfortable with their identities, and others in various states of figuring themselves out. Ksenia has a less defined identity in that there's some discussion of how she's not really a girl or a boy.Read for emotional, flawed, LGBT teens trying really hard to save themselves but mostly each other. Dark content but fiercely hopeful. Beautiful writing and a weird, tingly-creepy fairy world. Appears to be a hit or miss kind of book, but I loved it.If you like Holly Black's The Coldest Girl in Coldtown or The Darkest Part of the Forest, you should read this! If you read Sarah Porter's other book Vassa in the Night and liked the weirdness but could have used more sense-making weirdness, DEFINITELY read this.

This book made me feel awkward, disturbed, and a little depressed. There was not one happy moment. Not one.I wanted to read this book because I thought it was about the Fae. The summary hinted at having some story components to Fairie royalty. As an avid Fae/Fairie reader, I was expecting a story about either the Fairie Courts (Summer, Winter, etc) or the Seelie/Unseelie my courts. Instead, there is just a strange creature named Prince. That's it.The words "enchanted and changling" are used, but other than that, there really isn't anything that makes you think that fae are involved. The individuals stealing kids could be any random group of psychos.On top of that the writing style features these sophisticated ideas being told in childish terminology and lingo. Do kids still really start sentences with "Like"? It just didn't come across well. That dialougue was LIKE totally off the mark.There are some sensitive topics covered and honestly it gave me the creeps. I'm LIKE so open minded and this LIKE totally made me feel the jeepers 😂... seriously though, I'm truly an open minded person and can enjoy a mixture of literature and art. So the fact that this story felt very creepy and weird to me means that it will probably get a worse reaction from the general public.I can see the connections the author wants us to have with these characters, but I just don't feel it. For someone who doesn't read or listen to as many books as I do then this book might be hard to follow.I forced myself to finish this because it was my first ever Advanced Copy from NetGalley. If not for that, I would have gone without knowing the fates of these characters and I can't even remember the last time I didn't finish a book I started.Let me finish by saying that if you are interested in this book because you like fairie books, then you may not get what you want here. This book will fit for those who are interested in a more sinister type story. The main characters are in a toxic relationship where one is having second thoughts but scared to leave. I'm all for some real bad guys who aren't secretly nice guys trying to be bad. The bad guys aren't the problem. For me they are the only believable part of the book and they are fairies. It's the humans who say and do the unrealistic things. You may love this book, if so, we are on opposite sides of the prism. That's ok because if we all liked the same things then we wouldnt have any variety.The synopsis/summary for this one needs to be tweaked so that it's target market is hit correctly. Otherwise the book will get a lot of negative ratings because of how and who it it currently marketed towards.
