This book is great at forcing you to move outside of the way you normally work to embrace something different. It might be helpful for designers and artists to look at this book as something that requires discipline to get the most out of it. That means you’ll have to make a commitment to working the projects and then set aside regular time in your schedule to do so. That’s not always in the wheel house of some artistic temperaments but if you make the commitment and follow through, it will be worth the effort. In fact, giving artists a foundation for regular self-development may be the best benefit of this book.

This is not my field of design (the book is more related to graphic design) but it had interesting tools that I can apply to my work. I got to make at last my personal logo :D!. Beyond that I read the book just making some mental resolutions of the design and comparing them to the examples developed by the participants. I have to confess many of them were quite specific and a bit boring as, then again, they are not related to my work. But I am happy to have read the whole book: it is useful.In the visual aspect the design seems a bit dated, and I include in this appreciation the cover of the book too.

Great book. Reminds me of taking art classes in college. This book forces you to do projects that you may not be comfortable with but will increase your artistic skills. Beautiful book.

I do a lot of in-house design for marketing material production. Since I work in-house, I regularly do "similar" work and wanted to grow my abilities and learn some new things.This book offers a nice change of pace and offers projects to make you better at designing and applying new concepts to your current work.The "Challenges" are a nice balance of fun and difficulty, whose end result can nicely expand a portfolio with a variety of work.

This book has may good tools that can be used to generate ideas in an ideation workshop. Reader will find it handy and practical.

As a Design Teacher this is a great resource for those kids that tend to move a little quicker than their peers!

I am really liking this book. It gives you concrete exercises in design, which are timed, which really makes them more effective as each exercise must be COMPLETED in a short time. I have learned a lot doing these exercises and would like to buy a Volume 2 of this book!! I highly recommend this book.

Amazing teachers aid. I used this book in my GD classes and it was a huge help, both to me and my students. HIGHLY recommended for anyone looking how to channel their creativity.

I purchased this along with Fodor's Las Vegas 2010 and Frommer's Las Vegas 2010. This book has the most pages. They break down everything in terms of a rating, price, etc. for shows they tell you the slowest time of the week for the show, the length of the show, as well as a description. It breaks down the top restaurants and buffets.This book has information regarding shows, hotels, restaurants, nightlife. There are little tips here and there but none i found that i didn't already really know.What I don't like is that there are no pictures--and there are very few visual breaks for me so sometimes the pages can be a bit overwhelming. I loved the Fodor's book the best for layout and pictures as well as side trip information.The difficulty in rating is that there are some things I like about Fodor's better and it gives better information and some things I like about this one better--this one has more information about buffets--which kind of excite me. I'm wondering if the only thing i will be doing is eating!After looking at Fodors and this book over and over, it really has become more of a tie for me between the two. Frommers on the other hand is clearly not on par with either of these books and provides the least amount of information on everything.If you are only looking to be in Las Vegas, then this is probably the best book. If however, you are like me and also wanting to do day trips or side trips, I would also purchase Fodor's Guide to Las Vegas 2010 as it has a lot more information about those. (63 pages on side trips--as opposed to 6 pages in this book).I hope this help you make a decision on which book is best.I learned from this book about the "M" casino that has an excellent buffet for fairly inexpensive. it is a little south of the strip so a lot of people don't know about. so far, it is our favorite buffet. although we will be going to Wynn soon because they are suppose to have an excellent buffet also.I highly recommend buying and reading at least 1 of these guides--this or fodor's as there is so much information that you may not find out if you just come.

In July 2010, we went with another couple to Las Vegas for a combined anniversary celebration (25th and 20th). Not only did we use this book for planning the trip, we literally carried it with us while we were there for guidance and trusted opinions/reviews. Yes, very touristy of us to whip out a guidebook and read it right on The Strip, but there is no shame in that town! It became even more clear once we got there that the information was on point every time. Especially in an area where there are so many choices and limited time, having a way to sort through the overwhelming amount of offerings was extremely helpful and enhanced our experience. Not bad for a $20 investment!

I am planning a trip to Las Vegas in November and wanted very current information on hotels, shows, etc. This guide was the perfect choice and I would highly recommend it if you are planning a visit.The format of the book makes comparisons between hotels, dining establishments and entertainment easy. This is not my first trip to Las Vegas so this book is for everyone.I have purchased Unofficial Guides to other cities and I have never been disappointed!!

I used this book to plan my first trip to Vegas and it proved very helpful. Nice background on the casinos etc.What I really liked was the restaurant and nightlife sections did not just give you a description of the type of food and the atmosphere. As well as a review, you had information on dress codes, bar availability, parking, average price range etc. This helped me make informed decisions on the places I wanted to check out and the ones that were okay to miss.There weren't a lot of pictures, but I was happy to give that up for the extra amount of information that fewer pictures allowed space for.

The author(s) of this book did an excellent job of adding flavor to the details of visiting Las Vegas. The humor, honest commentary and useful tips added greatly to my planning of my 15th trip to Las Vegas.You get hotel reviews, show details, shopping tips and general fun knowledge sprinkled liberally with tidbits of Las Vegas history and reference points on new vs. old Strip locations.Buy this one - it was fun!

This book is the second edition that I've bought. I previously had the 2004 edition. I also buy the Unofficial Guide to Disney World every year. The information is up to date, clear and concise. Both destinations change so much from year to year that I like to keep up even if I'm not traveling that year. I just came back from Vegas, the book was spot on, and kept me in the know. This book will save you time, trouble and money.

I have been to Las Vegas several times and used other travel books. This was myfirst purchase of an "Unofficial" book and will not be my last. It's very welllayed out, plenty of good information and good maps. I don't think you will bedisappointed, I wasn't. Well worth the money, especially at the "Amazon" price.

I have been travelling regularly to Las Vegas in the last dozen years. I thought I would need a traditional guide no more, but in truth this "Unofficial Guide" really offers informations and tips which would not be differently available.The hotels descriptions are well written and detailed. An example amongst many the refined review of the Wynn Hotel, a 4 page essay that really outlines this wonderful resort.Less convincing is the "dining section" which deals too much on famous establishments within the hotels and pays less attention to local restaurants. In this respect I would considere having the latest edizion of Zagat at handy.All in all the best guide to Las Vegas.Marco Cicogna

I stumbled across Eddie Coronado's books whilst looking at law of attraction clips on you tube. I read a few books and listened to a few audio books on the subject but I got no results. After the first few days of reading Eddies work and doing to exercises I noticed things starting to happen. I found pennies on the sidewalk, I got good parking spaces and even won a few dollars with the lottery. These books are life changers if you stick to what is written there. I am so grateful for coming across Eddies books! Be Blessed Buddy! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

I've studied the LOA for a long time and this book by far is my favorite! It's clear and concise (only took me 2 hours to listen to on Audible) and I was able to outline my own LOA action plan using the advanced tools the author teaches. THANK YOU!!!

I have read all of Mr. Coronado's books on the Law of Attraction, but this is by far is the absolute best! Advanced Law of Attraction has techniques that are easy to follow and to practice. There are personal stories from people he's interviewed who use these amazing manifesting techniques and share their experiences with the reader. The book is presented in 6 parts that delivers every thing it promises. People always say, I have read all about the Law of Attraction, however, if you do not practice the law of attraction, you know nothing about the law of attraction. With this book you definitely get to practice the law of attraction. I loved it!

This is the third book I've bought and read by this author. In Advanced Law Of Attraction Techniques, he gives you complete step by step processes on how to create your desires. I'm just 3 days into putting the Intention Statement and Affirmation Statement into use, and I'm already noticing a positive shift.I have them typed out and in 3 places. One the wall next to my bed so I see them as I get into bed and first thing when I wake up. Secondly on my bathroom mirror so I see them before and after a shower and as I brush my teeth and hair. And lastly, on my vision board. I may even add a fourth copy next to my computer and/or as an image on my windows desktop!I want to see them everywhere where I constantly recite them throughout the day!I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to take the LOA to the next level and create their life's desires.

The practices work, but you have to be dedicated. I got just what I wanted when I said my intention statements.

Had already purchased as an audio book. Decided to buy book to really hone in on techniques and develop my own Action Plan. The techniques are not new, but helped me to formulate a Plan of Action to put the Law of Attraction to work in my life. Hope to report on the results soon.

Mr. Coronado has hit it out of the park with this book ! simple, concise,and complete !! more practical techniques than any other i have seen all rolled into one plan , a plan to win ! thank you sir for putting it all together in a way we can implement TODAY !

I've done a lot of research on the law of attraction and it blew my mind how many sources give you some information but never how to APPLY it; at least not in a complete and structured way. I also love that this book was short and to the point and didn't try to fill it up with a lot of fluff like most books do. If you're like me and you just want clear step by step instructions on how to create a law of attraction plan, this is it!

The Blue Guide is the best information available, with a lot more info on history, art and architecture than any other guide.The reason for the three stars is that this version offers neither a table of contents nor an index.

This is not a book about beaches, hotels, and restaurants. It is the best guide about history and archaeology. Worth the price if you are there to see and learn rather than tan like a pig skin.

The Blue Guide tradition of giving full information is capably upheld in the volume about Sicly. This is perfect when you need to know all about an archeological site. I bought this book for a short trip to the island and I found it perfect for learning all the details I crave. I recommend the e- book edition on a Kindle or tablet to avoid lugging around a weighty tome.

Absolutely fantastic historical and archeological guide. Best used as a supplement to traditional travel guides.

Great book for Mac OSX Admins. Very in depth. A bit out dated now - but if you need to know all about OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard this is the book you need. MSRP was $49.99 $USD. Joe really explains well, and if this is all over your head, it won't stay that way for too long. This book does deal with very advanced admin concepts, but in a good teaching way. I was going to give 4 stars then realized there is no reason to give less than the full 5 stars (except that time has moved forward, which is out of the author's control). Excellent book, the best I've read on the topic.

This book is a must have for anyone who is running MacOSX Snow Leopard. The book goes very in depth into Mac security, more so than "The Missing Manual." The UNIX tutorials are very clear and concise. I have some UNIX knowledge already, but had not used it for more than 10 years. However, after the first five minutes or so of reading the section on UNIX, I was able to go into the console and execute commands and do things that one is not able to do in the OS. This book is very large, but there is no filler information. Everything that the book talks about is important. This is a must-have book for any Snow Leopard user.

I'm running Mac OS X (10.6.8) and I found the "Bible" very good and gave me the info I was looking for.

When I first ordered this book, I figured that it would be a fairly easy read that was designed to teach beginners how to secure their Macs from potential security issues, such as how to turn on the firewall, install an anti-virus program, etc. Oh wow, was I ever wrong with this! This is a major book that dives quite deeply into nearly every aspect of security imaginable that you might want to know about for ensuring that your Mac is safe regardless of which environment it is placed within, such as a home or business.Things you might want to know:1) This book is designed for IT staff (with computer science degrees) and not for the average home user. It's a very large book (900 pages) and much of its writing is quite technical and dryer than dust. I found myself falling to sleep - (over and over and OVER again) - while reading it. Also, most home users probably won't have the faintest clue as to what the author is talking about, especially when it comes to using the terminal, editing configuration files, etc.)2) It makes a good reference book if you have a particular situation you need information about. For example, chapter 3 teaches how to work with user accounts, chapter 6 is about working with passwords, chapter 7 discusses how to securely share system resources, chapter 8 is about backups, virtual private networks (VPNs) on chapter 12, etc. Yet, if you tried to remember all of the details in this book, you'd probably come away with a massive headache and need a considerable vacation to recover from it.3) The biggest issue that I see with this book is that the author is VERY WORDY. He obviously loves to chat, chat and chat, which means that what most authors would of written in a few paragraphs, easily turns into a 10 page adventure.

This is definitely a book written by and for tech-heads. I consider myself a little bit of a geek, having used Macs for design, video and educational purposes since the mid-1980's. If not a full-fledged geek, I am at least very comfortable managing and administering my Macs myself with few serious mistakes or issues over the years. Even with this comfort level, I found that this book to be way over my head.Perfect for an IT person or a user who needs to understand every (metaphorical) nut and bolt in his or her system, but if you are just looking for some tips on how to tighten up the basic security of your Mac, this book may end up being a bit more than you are interested in digesting.PS - Writing reviews has become an accidental hobby for me, and it always makes my day to know that people find my reviews helpful (and if not, why.) According to the book’s introduction, their work is presented first by era and then by subject, so that illustrators, historians, and students can choose to follow the path of fashion through the centuries or study in detail the contrasting styles of individual clothing and accessories. However, because the various drawings and illustrations are not attributed, the volume misses the chance to compare the works of these two famous costume historians. In the first section of the book, “The Grammar of Costume,” drawings portray the changing trends of fashion worldwide from ancient times to the mid–nineteenth century. The second part, “The Elements of Costume,” surveys types of clothing and accessories, for example, “Women’s Dress, 1300–1600” and “Regional Headwear.” In both sections, cross-references and navigation bars draw attention to recurring motifs. A glossary defines most, but not all, of the terms that are italicized in the text, which was written by leading experts in the field of costume history. Although not every article of clothing is described in every picture, the descriptions provided are an excellent reference point. The detailed descriptions cover headgear, hairstyles, accessories, and footwear. Would recommend this over "Pictorial Encyclopedia of Historic Costume" and "The Historical Encyclopedia of Costumes."

I purchased this book to use as a reference for making historical costumes for doll figures, and it is well worth the price I paid. The book follows a simple chronological progression of years with every two pages showing a new series of beautiful illustrations in color depicting either men's or women's clothing from the time period being discussed. The historical descriptions are concise, and each illustration is labeled with regional terms and titles that can easily be looked up on the internet or in other reference books if more research is needed. Everyday clothes, costumes, or regalia from Europe, Africa, the Far East, the Middle East, and North America are well represented. The only thing missing from this book is the native and national dress of Central and South America, and Australia and New Zealand areas. In spite of this lack, this is the best book on clothing and costuming I have ever used.

This was a very fascinating book. If you are interested in costuming before the 19th century, this book gives detailed information about clothes, hair, and accessories of Americans, Europeans, etc It even shows how the people wore each layer which would be helpful. Unfortunately for me, though, I was looking for 1800's, which is the 19th Century, so the book cut off right before the era I was looking for. That was my error. I'm sure if it continued through the 19th Century, it would have been what I was looking for.

All of the pages have color illustrations, great descriptions and the way it is written makes it easy to read, even to those with no previous fashion background. It is organized by year and geographic areas. It does lack a bit of the cultural background behind the development in each style/fashion. Great book overall and it is even used as a text book for Fashion History classes, including in Art Institute. Mostly basics.

Not only does it have great renderings and references. It has historical background as to what the trends were at any given period. Hair, shoes, accessories and fabric trends are all included with each time period. A great addition for the costume designer and builder to assist with period accuracy.

I haven't finished this book yet but I have read so far it is really, anyone who is into fashion or costume design should definitely read this book. Only thing I wish that this book had is the under garments, you have to buy a completely different book if you want to learn about the under garments.

I like to use this as a reference when I sew costumes. I like visual aids.

Granddaughter loves the book.

This is a fabulous book. The photography is gorgeous. If one loves ethnic ornamentation but cannot obtain these pieces, this book is the next, best thing to owning them.

Interesting material

Breath-taking color photos of no longer used and fastly dissappearing head adornments. All pieces are photographed from private collecters and muemseums.

The book is visually stunning: some readers may be disappointed, depending on what they are seeking. The book consists of superb shots of pieces from Asia, Africa, Oceana, and (South)America. The pieces consist of a variety of head ornaments: combs, bands, nose ornaments, etc., but do not include earrings (which are covered in A World of Earrings) or hats. The representation is uneven, with the collections for Asia and Africa being much stronger than for Oceana (perhaps 24 pieces) or South America (perhaps a dozen pieces). Since this is a catalog of a personal collection, one obviously cannot have pictures of what is not there, and this is not a criticism. However, the person researching international jewelry should recognize the limitation.The pictures themselves are stupendous: large with extremely clear detail. Depending on the item, there may be several on a pages (as with small hairpins) or one piece may have a double spread. The pictures are solely of the pieces; there is no attempt to display them as they would be used. They are arranged in geographical sections, with a brief introduction to the jewelry of that area. All of the caption information is collected at the end of the book, which I suppose avoids detracting from the pictures, but which some may find annoying. At least every page seems to have a discreet page number, so it is easy to match them to the captions. Anyone with a scholarly interest may find this disappointing: there is minimal information about the size of the pieces, generally the largest dimension only, and only one, even if multiple pieces are shown in the same picture. Only a very broad provenance is given, and little about the age. One comb for example, notes that this style was derived from the Spanish mantilla beginning in the 17th century, but it does not indicate if it is also contemporary. I a a little confused by the notation in the caption about a piece from Nigeria referring to Pharaonic Egypt. Does this reflect cultural sharing? Does this mean that the piece is from the time in history? The precise comment is that the ancient Egyptians often copied natural forms, but looking through the pictures, isn't that true of most cultures?The index is very detailed in that one may, for example, look up pieces from Ming Dynasty China under either Ming or China. It would be helpful if a time period was specified for the dynasties. Also, the page numbers refer only to text, either in the section introductions or the captions. Thus, one is directed to the captions for the jewelry, and goes from there to the pictures. There are also maps and an extensive bibliography.Well worth oohing and ahhing over, but will be only a supplement for a person with scholarly interests.
