Book #3 and I still cant stand Anita Blake and I still want Jean Clude to win and have sex! Ok, so I cannot relate to an awkward yet self righteous seemly frumpy whiner who puts herself in crazy situations but then acts clueless as to why she is in them... Now, Jean Claude wants her and wants her bad... I like him and I hope he wins sooooo Im going to keep reading... This book was amazing in the last 4 chapters. You also get introduced to a Werewolf who is sweeter then Jean Clade and Anita likes him, he is a warm hunk of meat... Hoping Richard gets crushed by Jean Claude... lol Also wayyy too much Sexual Tension, somebody get it on and stop talking about all the lust they have for one another.

I love the 1st Anita Blake books! I love the mysteries, the qualities of Anita and the hints of the romance to come. I love the zombie raisings, the vampires and even the werewolves. When the books started there was always a good mystery to be solved and I even liked some of the bad guys. From the beginning I always like Jean Claude he had a unique quality to him, he makes you love and hate him. I hate that the later books just become an ode to how beautiful Anita is and repeat the same story back over and over. Most people who read the books have read them in order we don't need a repeat of each character almost word for word, I feel like the first chapter is usually just telling the same thing again. It makes me nostalgic for her first few books. I love Circus of the Damned, I love Edward and all his guns and flamethrower. I love the different bad guys and not knowing who Anita can trust. I've read most of Anita's stories and keep hoping to get back to Guilty Pleasures, Lunatic Cafe and Circus of the Damned. Maybe someday the bee books will live up to the beginnings.

“Most women complain that there are no single, straight men left. I’d just like to meet one who’s human.” This has to be one of my favorite books in the Anita Blake series. This is where it seems that the shifter world starts getting a more prominent spot in the Anitaverse, which just adds an additional layer of complications, and fun, to the series. It’s also where you first meet Richard, who is totally dreamy and wonderful, at least for now. This is also where you start noticing that Anita doesn’t have quite the aversion to Jean-Claude as she once had. Some might say that’s a good thing, others a bad. For me personally, I love this change. Can’t get enough of Jean-Claude, in my opinion. Overall, it’s a great addition the the AB series, and I highly recommend it (though you DO need to read this series in order. Too many characters and backstories that just won’t make sense if you don’t start at the beginning). You got to love a strong, badass female character, that’s not annoying so. Great read!

Excellent read. Amazon, I hate your "review" process. When I give a product 5 stars it means that service and quality were excellent. If I give four stars or less, I say why. You make it necessary to write out a headline and a product review before I can submit my 5 star rating. I would not accept this waste of my time from any store I go to in person. I know that your sellers are rated on the results of buyers' reviews or if they even get a review. I want those I buy from to get their due. You make it hard for me by wasting my time

I've read the book at least four times. Glad to have a digital copy since I keep loaning out my paperbacks and have to buy replacements. The first three or four Anita Blake books are the best of the bunch and still in my top five series to read more than once. Good storyline. Believable and distinct characters. The writing is fun to read. If you like contemporary fantasy and aren't burnt out on vampires and werewolves, you should like Anita Blake. A mature spin to an already saturated topic that makes it stand out in the crowd.

This book is not for the faint of heart, but I would not say it is only for fantasy or horror fans, either. I don't actually read horror books.I like murder and other mysteries and I like some vampire fiction. This book has a lot of what I like from these genres but more than that, it has personal development of the characters which is ever evolving beyond this particular book.Oh and it turns out that the monsters can be pretty good and they can be pretty terrible. Oh wait a minute- just like humans. We all know humanity has its monsters as part of its own population. But these monsters are so much more colorful and dramatic and thankfully fictional!

Anita Blake is one of my all time favorite characters. I have read every book in the series, and find it hard to believe that the mind of Laurell K Hamilton could create such explosive novels. On the other hand, I look forward to her creating works of art that keep me engaged during the entire read. Not all authors have been able to keep me this entertained.Could you imagine an end to the legalization of American vampires? I can't. Anita is faced with many challenges in this edition. There are immortal creatures that threaten her life, a vampire older than dirt, and Richard Zeeman, who turns out to be a sexy werewolf. Haven't had a chance to read any of the others yet? Don't worry. Even if you start with this one, Anita, Jean Claude, and Richard will keep you coming back for more.
