Another novel by Victor Methos about a lawyer with heart. From a money driven lawyer who relishes the good life, Noah Byron becomes obsessed with acquiring justice for a young boy dying from tainted cough syrup manufactured by Pharma-K. The company denies it, of course, and provides its own top rated defense lawyers. The court case has fascinating ups and downs and is an excellent character study of the various people involved. My only quarrel with the book is the "shot in the dark" final witness. His testimony seems almost too good to be true, especially since the lawyer could not be sure what the witness would say on the stand.
If you're looking for a stunning alternative to John Grisham, if you can't wait for Robert Parker to be born again, if you love courtroom drama, Methos is the way to go. All right, I have read all of Grisham and even ordered his latest that hasn't been published; and Parker didn't even write courtroom drama. So there, that's off my chest. That just gives me more justification to say Methos is not just as good. Methos is better.
This was a really fun, quick, engrossing read. I truly enjoyed the story...particularly because the main character was taking on a pharmaceutical company (companies I have very little respect for). Having said that, the author clearly knows nothing about hospitals or how they run, and I'm not sure he understands the purpose of an ICU or it's layout. That's why I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5...some quick research could have remedied that problem. Recommended--a perfect beach read!
Just finished this book and it's even better than the first Methos book I read, "Neon Lawyer." Such a delicate balance of manliness, compassion, and feminine allure without being trashy and fake. I love that the author can write such a riveting story without using swear words or sex. Plus the grammar is far superior than most books, which means he's either an excellent writer and/or he has excellent editors. Methos has the ability to draw the reader right into the action, seeing what the characters see, feeling what they feel. The legal stuff sounds authentic, although not having a knowledge of that area I have to take his word for it. Hard to lay down once I got going! I look forward to reading more of his work!
I’m exhausted after reading this book, oh boy what a wonderful story, it gives you faith in the future, it gives you faith in humankind... this guy Methos besides of being a helluva lawyer has lots of sensibility and respect for the weak and for those “in need of a hero†people. This is my third or fourth book I have read from this author and one thing I am sure is, that it definitely won’t be my last...
Very well done. An interesting story, well-developed characters. A money-driven lawyer becomesmore humane as he comes to know a 12 y/o boy who dying from liver and kidney failure aftertaking tainted medicine.I enjoyed the ending, but not sure if the surprise witness would really have been called to testify, given all the factors. The lawyer didn't know what the surprise witness would say, which isn't a lawyer-ly thing to do.Also, I am not sure it would have truly ever happened, seeing the lawyer had toessentially bet the farm (or the firm), and take the 2 founding partners and 70 employees along withhim.
Finally a Law Firm that becomes, after much time and exhaustion, passionate about going after the big guy. After delay and after delay by the defense it becomes "Let me throw you a bone to go away" Sticking to their guns our good law firm out smarts the bad guy, who has swept many illegal things under the carpet, and wins the day. I had a hard time putting this book down. I usually woke up very late at night after trying to read a long as I could. We all know that today's companies continue to put profit over safety.
AN INVISIBLE CLIENT by Victor Methos was an excellent read. It was a gripping legal thriller that should touch the heart of any reader. A young boy, Joel Whiting, was given cough medicine by his mother and the medicine was defective causing immediate problems. He was rushed to the hospital and his situation did not improve. Joel developed kidney and liver problems as well as other related health problems. Personal injury attorney Noah Byron was asked to look into the case and did so with some reservation. Noah's investigation turned up lies and corruption with the manufacturer, Pharma-K, and said company has an extensive legal staff that tries numerous tricks in an attempt to thwart the plaintiff's counsel.Joel passes about three months after admission. Although the defendant's counsel suggested a million dollar settlement, Joel's mom, Rebecca does not want any other children to experience the grief and trauma which she had experienced. They decide to take the case to a public trial in Federal Court and the battle is described by the author so that the reader is kept wondering how various twists and turns will effect the outcome. Without giving away the final settlement, let me just say that justice prevails. The book is also a love story of sorts in that Noah has a new female lawyer who joins his firm and by the end of the story the couple, who have worked so hard during trial preparation, end up getting engaged. Also, it is evident that Noah develops a love for his client, Joel, who flights a hard, but loosing battle to kidney and liver failure. Bottom line: I'd give the Invisible Client ten stars if I could... Yes, Victor Methos is that good and an excellent author who keeps his readers on the edge of their seats till the end of the book.
